Visual memory is a really powerful force. And sometimes, we don’t realize how powerful until we have a vivid reminder. For me, one of my strongest and maybe even the brightens happens each spring.
You see, each spring, throughout the UK fields of rapeseed blooms brighten the horizons in the most vivid yellow. And it is simply stunning. I look forward to seeing the bright blooms each spring, as a reminder that summer is close to around the corner.
I also love the seeing the fields as they remind me of my first trip to the UK, four years ago this April. And simply seeing the bright yellow reminds me of the sheer awe I felt visiting Wales for the first time. Everything was different and memorable, I fell head over heels in love with the landscapes all around me.
Look at me, four years ago… exploring Wales as a tourist. Little did I know I would eventually call Wales home within a few years!
Neal and I, with a little self-timer magic, during our exploring in April 2011.
Seeing the yellow fields sprawled before me remind me how far I have grown into my life here in Wales and how in awe I am on a daily basis. I am giddy each and every time we head out for a day of exploring the beautiful countryside.
It is amazing how these fields are such a beautiful reminder of my giddy expat journey. Do you ever have visual memories like this?
