Travel Tuesdays: Remote Falkland Islands

Earlier today on my  blog, I sent a little love to Boston.  You can  read my thoughts here.

Hello my lovely blog readers! Today is one of my favorite linkups for the week, Travel Tuesdays, hosted by the ever funny Helene from Helene in Between.  {If you are looking to day dream a bit and live through other travelers, check out this hop.  So much fun!}

Today, I wanted to share with you a remote spot on the earth that waves the Union Jack proudly: The Falkland Islands.  I believe that my stamp from the Falkland Islands is my most obscure stamp, as it takes some major trekking to get there! I decided to share about my visit to the Falkland Islands today for two reasons.  First, because of the connection to the former Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher who passed away last week.  Thatcher was prime minster during the Falklands War, which I am not going to debate or discuss {since I am no good with British politics} but I thought the timeliness was too good to pass up.

My second reason for sharing this visit, is because just a few weeks ago the residents of the island were asked to vote on remaining a Overseas British Territory.  The results?  With 90% of the residents turning out to vote, 1,513 were in favor and 3 were against.  Did I mention that there is 79,000 miles separating the Falklands from London?  Yeah, that is a whole lot of distance.  But distance makes the heart fonder?

I had the opportunity to visit  Stanley in 2007 {yes, when I worked on a cruise ship in a previous life} and it was quaint, and lovely and very very British.  Here are a few of my favorite pics from that visit:

A Union Jack roof !?! Awesome…

Red telephone booths, very British.

Could this car be any more classic?

Where is the most remote place you have ever traveled to? I’d be curious to find out!
