Travel Archives: Istanbul

Mar 16, 2013 by

Greetings lovelies!  Today I want to share with you one of my favorite travel archives from my visit to Istanbul, Turkey during the spring of 2007.   I was inspired to write about Istanbul after watching the movie Argo.  If you’ve seen the film, you may remember the scene when Ben Affleck is in a mosque discussing visa options for entering Iran.  That scene was filmed at both the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, both of which I was able to see during my day out in Istanbul.

Here are some snapshots of Hagia Sophia, a stunning mosque that has been sitting on the same site for over 1,000 years.

I am in love with this light fixture. The shape, the scale. Amazing.

And on to a few images of the Blue Mosque…

And of course, I have to include one pic where I was carefully holding the camera and saying cheese.  (Oh yeah… and I love those way too big sunglasses.)

Cheers from Istanbul circa 2007. {Fun travel archives!}

      Helene,

      It is an incredible place to visit, unlike anywhere I have ever traveled to. I was there during the call to worship, which reminded me right away that I wasn’t in the States anymore… I would 100% recommend it! :)

  3. Cool- It looks like a very interesting place- I would love to make it there someday! I have heard that there is a really large, cool, chaotic marketplace there that sounds really neat, too!

      The Grand Bazaar is what you are thinking, and it is a just like you described: chaotic, crazy and very cool. Make sure to add Istanbul to your “To Do” list for future travels!

    Did you stand on two continents at once? Is that Istanbul or am I making that up? Either way, beautiful pictures!

    • belinda

      Hi Sam! You are totally right, Istanbul spans both Asia and Europe which is a totally crazy thought! I really would love to travel back there and photograph some more! Enjoy the rest of your week….

      Hello Meg! Thank you for swinging by my blog and leaving me a comment. I love hear from fellow big-sunglasses lovers. (My husband Neal laughs at me for wearing them!) Istanbul was a wonderful experience, I hope to travel there again soon. I will have to visit your blog to say hello soon… Enjoy your weekend!
