Did you know that there are about 2,200 miles of canals throughout the United Kingdom? Yes, true …and a fact that I wasn’t aware of either. On Friday, Neal and I joined up with the rest of his family to enjoy a day on the canal boats in celebration of our nephew Kelly’s 11th birthday. The weather was stunning, and with the canal boat filled with food and drink we were ready for an adventure. We picked up the boat right outside the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct , so stunning views were on the docket.
Our boat for the day: Julia.

The canals are pretty narrow, making steering a bit of a challenge. From bends and curves to avoiding the mooring boats!
Low bridges made for an interesting experience. See how far Neal has to duck? Well, one time I didn’t duck resulting in a bump on the head from a stone bridge. OUCH.
As we turned the corners, all of a sudden we were encountered with a whole field of British cows. Only in the countryside of Wales. Bless…
I loved how beautiful all the lush trees were on the sides of the canal. Reminded me of a lazy Jane Austen novel.
All in all a fun day at a very slow and leisurely pace. We all got a bit of sun, which was welcomed as this summer hasn’t had much sun at all!
