LDR Survival Tip #1: Flexibility

As an avid blogger,  I am constantly monitoring my search engine key terms that have driven readers to my blog.  I am always thinking of ways to write to what is current, popular or simply being searched.  (Yes, this is me running my own SEO… bit by bit.)

I’ve been seeing tons of search terms recently regarding Long Distance Relationship survival (LDR) and love letter writing.  This has been a constant search term which makes me think that there are plenty of people in LDRs who are needing guidance and assistance in navigating a tricky relationship.

I am going to try to start writing to LDR tips, tricks and survival guide.  Although Neal and I are “newbies” (less than a year) when it comes to being in a LDR, I have plenty of advice to share with the world.

This week, I think I want to focus on the idea of flexibility. Being in a LDR, especially an international LDR of 5,000 miles, having a sense of flexibility is key to maintain a LDR. That may mean you have to adjust your daily schedule to allow for telephone and video chats or even both jumping onto Google Chat.  Being flexible to meet each other in the middle and find a compromise is critical to maintain  a sense of normalcy in a very un-normal relationship.

For example, Neal and I have unofficial time each evening, around 9-10 pm that we have a standing date for either a phone or a video chat.  Neal is flexible in waking up early (between 5-6 am) while I am flexible to adjust my evening routine prior to that time.

So, for all those who are in a challenging yet rewarding LDR make sure to look at how flexible you are.  Adjusting your schedule (or at least being willing to) can change and open your relationship.
